Meet Budy Tjahjo

Budy Tjahjo

With aspirations to become an architect at 19 years old, Budy Tjahjo moved from Indonesia to the United States to attend college. Like many young students, his interests and plans changed after taking only a few undergraduate courses. Budy earned his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Oklahoma State University.

Now married with three children, ages 15, 12 & 8, Budy has spent the past 15 years employed with Omega. In his current position as Senior Developer, Budy develops new products that add value to the Financial and Practice Management Software Omega provides to law firms across the country.

Let’s get to know a little bit more about Budy in his own words:

What brought you to Phoenix 15 years ago? “I was living in California working in the Silicon Valley area and was laid off my job. Not really sure what to do, I moved to Phoenix to stay with family while looking for a new job. It didn’t take long to be hired by Omega. People always worry about getting laid off from their jobs, but for me it was a positive. I found a great employer and it ended up being a fantastic career move.”

What was your first job ever? “Growing up in Indonesia, my family owned a clothing store. Like most small businesses, it’s a family affair. I worked stocking shelves, taking inventory, running the register and more. It taught me the value of a hard day’s work.”

What are your hobbies or interests? “I think anyone who has children can relate to the fact that their hobbies and interests quickly become yours. My kids keep me very busy when I’m not at work. We enjoy playing soccer and baseball together. Spending my free time with family is very important to me. I also enjoy traveling and in the future, I would like to travel more.”

How has your job changed over the past 15 years? “The biggest change I have experienced in my career over the past 15 years was the move from a DOS operating system to Microsoft Windows. That was a very exciting time to be a programmer as I was learning new things every day – in some cases, every minute. Also, the recent migration from Windows to .Net has been an interesting adventure.”

What is the best thing about working in the legal software industry? “As a programmer, the legal software industry seems to be more challenging and interesting than other industries. We never lack problems to solve or new solutions to discover. Each day is never the same as the one before. I really feel like we are making a positive impact in the products we develop for our clients.”

What is the biggest reward in your job? “My answer kind of goes along with the previous question…It really feels good to know that the product you develop and the work you do is useful and helps people do their own jobs more effectively. Computers have revolutionized almost every industry in the world, and it’s rewarding to be in a niche industry where I receive direct feedback from Omega clients regarding the products we develop and deliver to the market.”

What is it like working for Omega? “I couldn’t ask for a better place to work. The environment of our company is productive and professional which makes me strive to be the best at what I do. It’s a company that truly values experience, and a place where managers actively listen to employee opinions and feedback. I look forward to working at Omega another 15 years!”
